Vilassar de Mar has such a history behind its cosy and charming village that you should see by yourself. We are talking about a town which has a mariner past, where its residents lived for a constant fear of the pirates. For this reason, three of the richer families of the town fortified their houses and built defensive towers just in case someday they were attack by pirates. Nowadays, those builded towers and the fortified houses along the streets are an emblematic aspect that characterize the town that is today.

During 19's century, it became a town with an important amount of transatlantic seafaring activity. Some families controlled the Tasajo's route, which sailed from Catalonia to New Orleans, going through Uruguay and Cuba.
If we have a walk around the neighbourhood, we will run into the Torre de Defensa from year 1551. It is considered to be one of the goods of national interests. Furthermore, we will go through countless properties of modernist and colonial style, as well as buildings with different artistic influences, that give a lot of personality to the village.

Apart from that, it has a promenade with spectacular views to Barcelona that goes to one extreme of the town to the other. Also, it communicates with the towns and cities next to Vilassar, where you can go by foot or cycling instead of car. Moreover, it is a good place to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Vilassar de Mar celebrates a big town party, due to the town's saint is San Juan. For this reason, the shortest night of the year, 24th June, it presents with great events, campfires at the beach, concerts, fireworks and much more. Nevertheless, 24th June is not the end of celebrations, it continues the subsequent days to San Juan, with different kind of activities, both diurnal and noctural, where enjoying becomes the motto of everyone.

As opposed to other villages, Vilassar de Mar has a way to dress up its streets with peculiarity. A competition of streets, sectors, balconies, gardens and communities is organised, so the town gets full of originality.
